Lanzarote’s Cultural Attractions

March 3, 2017

Attendances at Lanzarote’s key cultural attractions continue to climb, buoyed by rising visitor numbers to the island and a programme of promotions that is keeping admissions on an upward curve.

So far this year 2,107,595 people have paid to visit Lanzarote’s main centres of Art and Culture, which include the Jameos del Agua, Timanfaya National Park, Mirador del Rio, Cactus Garden, Cuevas de los Verdes, Museum of International and Contemporary Art and the recently added Casa Amarilla in Arrecife. And overall admissions are now up by 5.38% for the year to date versus the same period last year.

In part this can be accounted for by the fact that passenger arrivals keep on rising. So far this year Lanzarote has welcomed 1667,978, an increase of 3.6% versus 2014 numbers. But that doesn’t tell the entire story as these attractions are also much loved by locals too. And island authorities have been careful to invest in order to maintain infrastructure and finance improvements, such as the recent addition of 1000 new plants at the Cactus Garden in Guatiza.

Other notable improvements have included the recent revamp of the restaurant at the Museum of International and Contemporary Arts, the opening of the Casa Amarilla in Arrecife to the public and the implementation of diverse cultural programmes at venues such as the Jameos del Agua, where visitors could enjoy everything from big name DJ’s through to traditional Canarian folk music over the summer months.
