Jameos Auditorium Reopens

April 5, 2017

The natural, volcanic auditorium located within the grounds of the Jameos Del Agua, one of Lanzarote’s leading visitor attractions, is one of the best and most atmospheric live performance spaces on the island. And now after being closed for renovations for 13 years it is about to reopen, an occasion that is being marked with a series of live concerts that are open to both tourists and locals alike.

The auditorium was originally created by Cesar Manrique and has been shut for many years as repairs take place on an intricate cupola. It is located at the rear of the Jameos, close to the breathtaking swimming pool.

This Friday and Saturday, the 5th and 6th of December, there will be a live performance by Tempo Lanzarote, a collaborative group of local performers drawn from various backgrounds, such as the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote and Bentio Cabrerez, a leading exponent of the timple, a small guitar like instrument that is a local folk staple.

Even better arguably on December 11th the auditorium stage will be occupied by the popular group Fuel Fandango, who will be performing an acoustic set as part of their Spanish tour, which also visits major venues in Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona, entitled Treces Lunas.

This dynamic duo are formed of Ale Acosta, a renowned DJ and producer from the Mojo Project who has a stack of serious awards to his name, such as Producer of the Year from the Latin Grammy’s in 2008. Here he teams up with female vocalist Nita, from Cordoba, to create an original live blend of organic music, rock, funk and a subtle touch of southern flamenco music, a sound which is winning them great acclaim internationally.

Many of their tunes are sung in English and tickets for the event cost 25 euros in advance, from the box offices at all of Lanzarote’s main centres of Art and Tourism, such as The Cactus Garden and Mirador del Rio.
