Lanzarote Marina now open

April 5, 2017

The wait is finally over… after two years, two months and 24 days of ongoing works Lanzarote’s newest marina has just opened to much fanfare in Arrecife, bringing the island’s complement of these important maritime facilities to a total of three.

Developed by the owners of the luxury marina at Puerto Calero, Lanzarote Marina occupies the previously unused space in-between the Museum of Modern Art at the Castillo de San Jose and Porto Naos, just on the outskirts of the capital.

This new nautical hub boasts 400 berths and can accommodate super yachts of up to 820 tons, along with over 10,000 square metres of high end commercial and retail outlets. Which in tandem with the two other facilities at Puerto Calero and Marina Rubicon are designed to attract more of the affluent boating ‘wet set’ to the island’s shores.

With over 60 commercial premises in total, the objective is to also establish the marina as a retail hub and destination venue in its own right. And its close proximity to the attractive El Charco area should ensure plenty of overspill in terms of visitor footfall. Half of these outlets are already open for business, as many existing Lanzarote based companies have taken on new premises within the marina to in order boost their island-wide profile. With numerous cafés and restaurants it should also prove a popular place for ocean-bound cruise tourists to visit on route from the harbour at Puerto Marmoles to Arrecife.

The opening ceremony took place on Saturday 18th October and was attended by Paulino Rivero, the President of the Canarian Government as well as numerous political dignitaries from Lanzarote, including Pedro San Gines, the President of Lanzarote’s government.

During the day there were street performers on stilts, DJ’s Javi San Juan and Jacobo Padilla spun a few tracks, while children were entertained with workshops and theatrical events. Further music offered a soundtrack to the evening, with performances from Los Salvapantallas (The Screensavers) and the singer Carlos Jean.
