Arrivals Rise Again

January 10, 2017

Lanzarote’s popularity as a holiday destination has really taken off over the last few years, taking visitor number to ever higher levels.

Since 2010 alone the quantity of foreign tourists enjoying a stay on the island has soared by just over 20% – and this trend shows no signs of abating in 2015. On the contrary, passenger figures just keep on rising, according to AENA and ISTAC, as February’s figures reveal yet another upsurge in arrivals.

The latest tourist numbers make very happy reading for anyone with an interest in this all important sector of Lanzarote’s economy. Last month 170,128 foreign tourists booked a break on Lanzarote, whilst the island also welcomed 23,742 visitors from the mainland, so continuing the best start to a year in terms of arrivals ever.

Foreign passenger numbers have now risen by over 3% during both January and February, and that’s on the back of a record breaking year for tourist arrivals in 2014, making the outlook for this year very sunny indeed.

As ever the UK tourist market leads the way, with 79,507 Brits booking a break on Lanzarote last month, which equates to just over 46% of all foreign arrivals in February. The German market also performed well and ahead of last year’s figures, with 30,223 visitors. Eire occupied its usual spot on third place, with 14,952 tourists. But the real surprise is the continued emergence of France as a market, now occupying fourth with just over 9000 arrivals, ahead of Holland and the Scandinavian markets.
